Finished back yard landscape in the Treasure Valley

Back-Yard Landscaping for New-Construction Homes

Most Treasure Valley builders finish the front yard and hand over the back yard as bare, rough-graded dirt. Many subdivision covenants then give new owners a deadline to finish it, often 60 to 180 days after closing, with fines from the HOA if it is not done.

We design and build new-home back yards from the dirt up, on a schedule that meets your HOA deadline, and we can help with your HOA’s landscape approval if your community requires one.

What a new-build back yard includes

  • Fine grading and imported topsoil so lawn and beds drain away from the house
  • Sod, with an automatic sprinkler system tied into the builder’s irrigation stub
  • Planting beds with trees, shrubs and perennials chosen for Boise’s climate, finished with bark or rock and metal edging
  • Drip irrigation for beds, and rock or bark for narrow side yards
  • Optional paver patio, fire pit, lighting or retaining walls

What it costs

Every yard gets a site visit and a line-item quote, but most new-home back yards in the valley fall into three packages. Prices are for a typical 3,000 sq ft back yard with side-gate access; larger yards are priced to size.

  • Basic — topsoil, sod, sprinklers and rock in the side yards: from $16,000
  • Standard — adds planting beds, trees, shrubs and perennials, bark, metal edging and a drip zone: from $21,500
  • Standard + patio — everything in Standard plus a 12×16 paver patio: from $29,000
  • Larger lots (around 6,000 sq ft and up, common in Eagle and Star): from $30,000 / $40,000 / $47,500

Built for side-gate access

New subdivisions usually have fenced yards with only a side gate for access. We plan materials, equipment and crews around that, so the price you see is the price for your actual site, not a lot with open access.

How it works

  • Site visit: we measure the yard, check the grade and the irrigation stub, and read your HOA’s landscape requirements
  • Design and quote: a simple plan and a line-item price before any work starts
  • Build: most new-home back yards take one to two weeks
  • Hand-off: sprinkler programming and a walkthrough of plant care for the first season
